Reference Librarian • Milford Public Library, Milford, CT November 19 – Present
• Oversee building as Person-in-Charge when higher administration is absent; mediate patron issues in all departments.
• Train ten new hires in Reference Department procedures, including reference interview best practices for optimal customer service, how to manage computer session turnover during COVID-19, and using library technology. Evaluate progress, show patience, and follow-up so that competency goals are met and new trainees are confident in their new role.
• Collect and interpret statistics that align with Strategic Plan. Set actionable steps and develop initiatives to meet annual department goals. Attend monthly Department Head meetings to discuss policy change recommendations to be brought to the Library Board and to assist the Director with the annual library budget expenditures.
• Negotiate vendor quotes during contract renewals while comparing discounts offered through the Connecticut Library Consortium.
• Inventory and update the Reference collection and highlight all related resources.
• Track usage statistics for eResources and present data and recommendations for continued service in departmental reports.
• Provide one-on-one tech, job-seeking, and library resource instruction during Book-A-Librarian sessions.
• Reestablished the Local History collection into a new space after renovations due to a capital improvement project.
• Liaised with bidders for a digitization project that resulted in spending $16,000 in ARPA grant funds and coordinated with Finance and Purchasing Departments to ensure the project was in accordance with ARPA guidelines. This created a digital backup for preservation as well as decreased barriers to access.
Young Adult Librarian • Milford Public Library, Milford, CT July 15 – October 19
• Established a YA department as Milford Public Library’s first YA Librarian.
• Planned and implemented programs for young adults in grades 6 through 12.
• Presented upcoming programs, demonstrated online resources, and did booktalks during outreach visits to students in Milford’s middle schools and high schools.
• Managed the Young Adult book collection. Purchased and weeded fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels. Responsibly metered funds for book purchases throughout the year in order to stay under overall budget.
• Coordinated with the Children’s Department to plan Summer Reading activities.
• Started and ran a Teen Advisory Group; organized and trained teen volunteers.
• Curated posts as part of the library’s social media team for Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook.
• Helped readers and parents discover new books.
• Created displays highlighting the collection, current events, and information services.
• Provided one-on-one tech and library resource instruction; gave group tours.
• Guided college-bound students and high-schoolers entering the workforce.
